Cox School of Business Giving Priorities

Current-Use Priorities

SMU Fund for Cox

Gifts to the SMU Fund for Cox address the most pressing funding priorities and are allocated at the discretion of the dean of the Cox School of Business. Examples include scholarship support, faculty fellowships and research grants, international study and research support, new program development and leadership development opportunities. This fund allows Cox to meet new opportunities as they arise.

BBA Scholarships

Bloomberg Businessweek ranked SMU Cox’s undergraduate BBA program No. 21 among the nation’s top undergraduate business schools. Scholarships are critical to recruiting and retaining top quality students who will excel in the business education environment. Competition for these students is intense, and the cost of a private education is constantly increasing; BBA scholarships allow high-achieving students with financial challenges to consider SMU Cox. To attract the greatest number of highly qualified students to the Cox undergraduate program, significant annual and endowment funding is needed.

MBA Scholarships

Bloomberg Businessweek ranks the Cox School’s full-time MBA program No. 31 in the nation, and the Executive MBA and Professional MBA programs rank in the top 10 graduate programs. In order to continue to attract high-quality students to the MBA programs, scholarships are integral. As competition increases, scholarship offerings set universities apart when the time comes for students to make their choice. As corporate tuition reimbursement programs for MBA students have decreased drastically in recent years, it is imperative to offer scholarships to retain students of the highest caliber.

Endowment Priorities

Establishing an endowment at the Cox School provides the opportunity to change the lives of students and scholars and to create a permanent legacy honoring or memorializing the life and work of an individual or organization.

A named fund may be established with a gift of $100,000 or more. This support allows the Cox School to offset the rising cost of higher education by providing a dependable source of income for student and faculty investment and minimizing the need for continued tuition increases. Income from the endowment enables Cox to accomplish its greatest priorities, as determined by the dean, such as scholarship support, faculty fellowships and research grants, and new program development and leadership development opportunities.

The process to establish a new endowment begins with a conversation between the donor and the School regarding the donor’s vision and wishes for the gift. Together, the Cox School and the donor determine the greatest need and the opportunity for the gift.
