Benches and trees provide an opportunity to commemorate your loved ones and beautify the SMU campus. Trees can be dedicated with a gift of $5000 and benches with a gift of $10,000. These gifts which helps offsets the cost of procurement and installation of the bench and the plaque.
Yes, unless it has already been reserved by another donor who has already made gifts to name that specific tree. We can advise you on areas of campus that are unlikely to be affected by future construction and renovation that may impact a given tree.
What if the tree dies after I designate it for a tribute?
SMU will replace a tree that dies, unless it is in an area of campus that is undergoing construction or plans for construction. In that case, we would move the plaque to a similar tree in as close to the same location as it was originally. We will make every effort to contact the donor when this occurs.
Will SMU replace the tree with the same kind of tree as before?
If the tree is replaced, SMU will make every effort to acquire the same variety and size as was present originally. If that is not possible, we reserve the right to substitute another variety or size.
Periodically there are opportunities to name bricks, pavers, chairs, tables and other similar features on campus. Some projects are complete, such as the bricks on The Crain Promenade. Here is an active list of these types of projects:
