The new Indoor Performance Center, featuring Armstrong Fieldhouse, will be located in the heart of campus at the corner of Bishop Boulevard and Binkley Avenue, and in close proximity to the Loyd All-Sports Center. The 67,000-square-foot facility will house a 4,000-square-foot multi-use Boulevard Club, a 2,000-square-foot Recruiting Lounge and access to a 1,500-square-foot outdoor patio, and a turf field with access to a training room and fitness/rehab area.
The Boulevard Club
The Boulevard Club, located on the ground floor just inside the main entrance off Bishop Boulevard, will serve as a multipurpose space that will accommodate banquets, presentations, meetings, hospitality and other social gatherings for athletics, as well as for campus and community events.
The Recruiting Lounge, located above the Boulevard Club on the second floor, will primarily be used as a gathering area for current and prospective student-athletes. With access to an outdoor terrace providing views of campus, this space will include comfortable furniture, TVs, examples of uniform/helmet combinations and other displays showcasing great moments and players in SMU’s storied football history.
The Practice Field will feature the same playing surface as Ford Stadium and will increase flexibility for many of SMU’s sports programs to train, particularly during inclement weather. This space will also allow use by other campus and student groups when not programmed by Athletics.
The brick building will be constructed in a Collegiate Georgian architectural style that will be harmonious with SMU’s traditional campus environment, while also including updated features such as glass roll-up doors and translucent panels above the practice field to let natural light in.
