Beginning in May, the 32-year old building will be refreshed and reimagined as a modern, inviting gathering space where students come together to socialize, study and participate in the full slate of campus opportunities that nurture a strong sense of community. The project is expected to complete in 2021.
EXCITING TRANSFORMATIONS IN STORE FOR HUGHES-TRIGG INCLUDE
From its beginning in 1985, SMU’s Hughes-Trigg Student Center has served as the Hilltop hub for student activities and services. It has been an incubator for student leadership development as the headquarters of the SMU Student Foundation, Student Senate, Program Council and other organizations.
“Hughes-Trigg needs to be modernized to align quality and function with the excellence that SMU strives for. A great student center fosters campus involvement, attracts prospective students and bonds the student body.”
Nathan DeVera ’19
“Our vision for Hughes-Trigg is an exciting go-to spot with a lot of student life. It should be a fun hub where people are studying, working on group projects or meeting friends.”
Kate Jensen ’19
Hughes-Trigg is often a first campus stop for prospective students and their parents. Regular visitors include area high school students and teachers attending the Tate Student Forums that precede the evening Tate Lecture Series programs. During the summer, the center serves as the main venue for new student orientation sessions.
The multifaceted student center houses the Veterans Center (also known as the SMU MilVets Lounge), the Office of the Chaplain and Religious Life and the Hegi Family Career Development Center, which hosts career and internship fairs on site.
There are a handful of spaces still available to name within SMU’s Hughes-Trigg Student Center. Learn more about these unique naming opportunities by contacting Brandon Starr at 214-768-7726 or bstarr@smu.edu.
