Legal Stuff (Before crowdfunding, it is the project lead’s responsibility to review and understand the following SMU Crowdfunding Terms and Conditions. SMU reserves the right to revise these guidelines at any time.)

The project may NOT promote any activities that do not support the mission of SMU or any activities that are illegal or undesirable.

University Development Office staff will set forth guidelines for appropriate platform use and will supply instructional materials and training sessions on effective platform use. If your project is selected, you must abide by these guidelines and attend training sessions. Failure to do so may result in the inability to continue promotion on SMU's crowdfunding platform.

The successful completion of a project will require time from each project leader during the build-up phase of the project, and possibly more during the campaign. Project champions also must commit to 2 or more hours of work during the 30 to 45 days of the campaign.

I understand that donors to my project are also donors to SMU. Each gift made in support of my project will be stewarded by the University directly, above and beyond any stewardship my project team carries out through the crowdfunding platform. Additionally, I understand that, as donors to the University, these individuals may receive other University communications and/or solicitations.

If funded, SMU may publish any information about the project on the crowdfunding platform and/or other University marketing materials. This will help further promote your project for future support.

I understand that my project teammates and myself are representatives of the University and we will conduct ourselves respectfully and appropriately.

I understand and acknowledge that SMU's administrative leaders must approve all projects prior to publication on the crowdfunding site and have the right to decline any project at any time. If your project is not approved, the Office of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations will follow up to determine next steps.

I understand that all projects must provide an SMU-owned account to which donations can be distributed. Groups may use a gift fund associated with a sponsoring unit, such as a department,
program or center, with the approval of the finance officer in that area. Gift accounts must be approved before the project can begin fundraising.
